Nissan’s Resende plant in Brazil celebrates exporting 20,000 cars

Nissan’s Industrial Complex in Resende, Rio de Janeiro State in Brazil is celebrating the milestone of exporting 20,000 vehicles to foreign markets. It is a two-fold increase in exports in the last six-month period. In April, Nissan reported 10,000 units exported. The exports program started in March 2016.

“Last year, when we started the export program at our Resende Industrial Complex, we knew that demand was on the rise in Latin American countries,” said Sergio Casillas, director of operations and manufacturing of Nissan in Brazil. “We are stepping up production to turn Resende into a powerful export hub. Our plant has a strategic role in the development of Nissan.”

The capacity to supply foreign markets with Brazilian vehicles entered a new level in July when Nissan started the second production shift in the Resende’s plant. For this, Nissan hired 600 new employees who were trained to follow the company’s worldwide Quality standards.

As a part of Nissan’s export program – recognized with the 2017 Rio Export Award by FIRJAN (Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro) – Nissan’s Resende plant sends the March and Versa models to eight Latin American countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

The Versa compact sedan amounts to 57% of the Resende plant’s exports, and Argentina is the country with the highest export volume delivered at 44%.

Final preparations are now underway to move to the next step of the project: exportation of the Nissan Kicks. With production started in April 2017 at the Resende Industrial Complex, the global car will also be exported to Latin American markets.
