· New generation of lithium-ion battery technology expected for 2007

The Power Tool Division of Robert Bosch GmbH and Phostech Lithium Inc. in Montreal, Canada, a subsidiary of Süd Chemie AG, are cooperating in the field of lithium-ion batteries. The partner companies have agreed to develop a new, even more powerful lithium-ion battery technology for power tools. They aim to launch this onto the market in 2007.

Phostech develops and produces battery cathodes based on li-metal phosphate, especially lithium-iron phosphate (LiFePO4), an environmentally friendly material. Furthermore, Phostech has the exclusive license for the key patent owned by the University of Texas, governing the use of li-metal phosphate in Europe, Canada and the USA. Bosch, the leader in technology for lithium-ion cordless tools, will be contributing its extensive expertise in the electronic control of battery operation and charging processes.
