Fans to Decide "NEXTEL Most Dramatic Moment" Through Nine-Week Voting Process

Award decided by NASCAR fans throughout Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup

RESTON, Va. — 09/28/2006 - Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) announced today enhancements to the “Nextel Most Dramatic Moment,” the only fan award announced during the annual NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Awards Ceremony and an award that epitomizes NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series racing excitement at its best. The award will be presented live during the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Awards Ceremony, Dec. 1, on TNT.

The voting process for the 2006 moment has been changed to empower fans with a louder voice in deciding the award. The process will now include an initial round of voting throughout the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup to decide two finalists leading into the culminating event on Dec. 1. Throughout the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, fans can access exclusive coverage and commentaries through Web-enabled Sprint or Nextel handsets. Here, fans also can quickly place their vote for their favorite dramatic moment and vote as often as they like.

“The Nextel Most Dramatic Moment could not be identified in a more democratic fashion,” said Dean Kessel, director of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series marketing for Sprint Nextel. “Fans are going to not only vote for the finalists, but also make the final stamp on what will be forever known as the most dramatic moment of the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Season.”

The process will go as follows:

Round 1 Voting
Weekly voting for the Nextel Most Dramatic Moment begins Sept. 28 with five moments going head-to-head for fans to decide a finalist for advancement to the final round. Round 1 voting will conclude on Oct. 17 with the top moment voted on by fans advancing to the final round.

Round 1 voting can be completed via the following channels:
--Sprint or Nextel phones - Text “NASCAR” to 7777 on your Sprint or Nextel Web-enabled phone and follow the received directions
--Trackside at The Nextel Experience

Round 2 Voting
Round 2 voting will take place Oct. 18 through Nov. 19 and allows fans to vote on an additional finalist moment from five new moments into the final round.

Final Round Voting
Following the season-ending Ford 400 event at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 19, the fan-identified moments, plus moments best capturing the drama of the 2006 Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup championship will be voted on by fans to identify the 2006 Nextel Most Dramatic Moment. Final-round voting begins Nov. 20 and will conclude Dec. 1.

Round 2 and final round voting can be completed via the following channels:
