New Solutions Empower Telcos with Unprecedented Network Insight for Dramatic Improvements in Service Levels

BOSTON, Mass.-Monday, September 11, 2006, EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, today unveiled two enhanced correlation and analysis software solutions – EMC Smarts MPLS Manager 1.3 and EMC Smarts Network Protocol Manager (NPM) 2.0. The software offerings help telecommunications service providers achieve unprecedented network insight for dramatic improvements in service levels and availability.

With Smarts MPLS Manager 1.3, service providers can better manage their next-generation Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based virtual private networks (VPNs). Leveraging EMC Smarts’ award-winning correlation technologies, the software gives telco service providers the industry’s only solution capable of managing transport, MPLS and business-level domains individually and in correlation with one another – an absolute necessity for managing revenue-generating MPLS-based services. The latest version includes new management support for Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS), which have become staples of multicast IPTV and Ethernet-based deployments. MPLS Manager enables service providers to model and manage the logical VPLS layer and relate it to the underlying IP/MPLS transport layer through the Smarts common information model.

“With its unique ability to automatically discover and correlate MPLS VPN performance with the infrastructure that supports it, its capacity to accommodate the largest and most complex implementations and its new power to manage VPLS, EMC Smarts MPLS Manager lets service providers extract the maximum value from their IP networks,” said Chris Gahagan, EMC’s Senior Vice President, Resource Management Software.

Using NPM 2.0, service providers benefit from the industry’s first solution to proactively monitor the health of IP protocols, pinpoint the cause of problems arising from protocol failures and correlate these events to problems in the underlying IP infrastructure. The result is unprecedented insight into routing processes and adjacency failures, enabling service providers to dramatically speed mean-time-to-repair and improve customer service levels. The newest version of the software adds support for both the IS-IS and EIGRP protocols, both commonly used in service provider deployments.

“As IT infrastructures become more complex, routing protocols become increasingly important. They are the drivers of automated network discovery,” continued Gahagan. “By offering insight into these complex IT topology relationships, EMC Smarts NPM enables service providers to better understand the impact of dynamic network changes on business services.”

Smarts MPLS Manager 1.3 and NPM 2.0 are available now from EMC and its authorized partners. For more information visit www.smarts.com.
