“Identity theft is a growing problem that’s not going away any time soon. Shredding your personal and sensitive documents is one of the best ways to combat it,” says Charlotte Cash, CommonWealth One’s President/CEO.

CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union members can help defend themselves against identity theft by shredding their personal documents for free at Community Shred Days, and have a chance to win various rewards in the Team Up and Win membership promotion, included in this fall’s event.

Free food and drinks will be available for members and non-members alike at Shred Days, 9am-2pm, Sat., Sept. 19 at the Main Branch, 4875 Eisenhower Ave., Alexandria; and 9am-1pm at the Harrisonburg Regional Branch, 42 Terri Dr., Harrisonburg.      Attendees can bring old checks, personal documents, financial statements, and more, to be safely shredded and disposed of.

“Identity theft is a growing problem that’s not going away any time soon. Shredding your personal and sensitive documents is one of the best ways to combat it,” says Charlotte Cash, CommonWealth One’s President/CEO. “This year, however, Shred Days includes our Team Up and Win membership promotion, in which members can earn various rewards by inviting friends and family members to join CommonWealth One and become part of the team,” adds Cash.

Non-members outnumbered members last year, so the event makes it especially effective to communicate the benefits of membership to hundreds of non-members, who can join right on the spot.

The event, held in the spring as well as the fall of each year, continues to grow. Last fall, both branch locations shredded a total of 11 tons of sensitive documents brought in by 595 members and non-members.
