HONG KONG and LONDON, 09/07/2006 - Thomson Financial, an operating unit of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC, TSX: TOC) and leading provider of information and technology solutions to the worldwide financial community, today announced that it will launch the inaugural Thomson Extel APAC Survey in autumn this year. The Survey will cover the Asia-Pacific region, excluding Japan.

Steve Kelly, Head of Thomson Extel Surveys, commented: “With highly focused, quality participation in our pan-European Survey and a proven methodology for identifying outstanding sell-side performance, we aim to deliver the same for Asia. Asia is a major player in the global investment community and the Thomson Extel APAC Survey will provide cutting-edge market insight for Asian asset managers. We want to continue our exceptional track record as the world’s best Survey of the investment community, and we plan to extend coverage to Japan and the US in 2007.”

Claus Kwon, Thomson Extel Surveys Director, Asia, said: “This being our first APAC Survey, we will have a special focus on hedge funds and large institutions, providing Asia’s most authoritative rankings of brokerage firms, of research, sales and execution services to the fund management community. In the following years, we will broaden our scope to engage more types of participants and, in Extel tradition, we will continue to work with the market to ensure that we always capture information that is relevant and important.”

Voting for the Thomson Extel APAC Survey 2006 will open in September. Questionnaires will be available and responses can be submitted to the Survey website, www.extelsurveys.com from Tuesday September 5 to October 16, 2006.

The Thomson Extel pan-European Survey is the most comprehensive assessment of the investment community. This year’s Survey, the 33rd, was primarily conducted online, and reflected the contribution of over 5,000 professionals from 1,222 buy-side firms, across 56 countries worldwide. From the sell-side, over 1,400 analysts from 147 brokerage firms/research houses participated, and 480 of Europe’s largest quoted companies also took part.
