Motorola is the "Must Have" Mobile Brand in China

Beijing – 7 September 2006 – In a report on the Chinese GSM handset market in July, issued by Sino-MR, the largest telecommunications agency in China, Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT), a global leader in wireless communications, has become the trend-leading and fast-growing mobile handsets brand in China.

According to the report, Motorola produced 6 of the top 10 best-selling handsets in China for July: the MOTORAZR V3 (with a 2.6% market share) and the SLVR L6 (with a 2.0% share), ranking #4 and #9 respectively. The MOTOMING (with a 1.21% share) created a new category for iconic productivity is the market leader for pen-based PDAs. The report noted design was a critical factor in the success of Motorola handsets.

This news is the latest in a string of successes over the past year for Motorola, which saw US$9.28 billion (RMB74 billion) in sales for China in 2005. According to China’s National Bureau of Statistics listing of China’s Top 500 Manufacturers in 2006, Motorola was recognized as the nation’s leading foreign manufacturer, and the sixth largest industrial company in the Chinese economy.

According to the July Sino-MR report, Motorola China’s market share has grown to 22%, a significant rise in the company’s share from 13% only 9 months ago, confirming that Motorola is continuing to build momentum across its key markets.

Motorola’s MOTORAZR V3 and MING mobile handsets lead a lineup of the most popular phones in China, which as of 2005 became the largest market for mobile phone market in the world with over 400 million users.

At the end of July, Motorola won considerable attention with the official opening of MOTOGames, a virtual hypermart for China’s mobile phone users to discover, download, share and enjoy games, as well as the announcement of a new a cutting-edge handset designed specifically for mobile gamers – the Motorola E680g – and Motorola’s partnership with Shanda Interactive Entertainment on exclusive mobile versions of Shanda’s hugely popular World of Legend and Magical Land games.
