Logic PD Continues Support of Women in Engineering as Sponsor of Minnesota NCWIT Aspirations for Women in Computing Awards

State runner-up Katherine Myers selected for summer engineering internship at Logic PD

In support of encouraging women to pursue engineering careers, Logic PD has sponsored the third annual Minnesota NCWIT Aspirations for Women in Computing Awards. Created by NCWIT and Advance IT Minnesota, the awards program encourages young women to consider careers in technology, reducing the significant gender and talent gap in the field. Winners are selected based on their interests, accomplishments and community involvement in computing and technology as well as their future aspirations in these fields.

Twenty-two young women in grades 9-12 were honored for their computing-related achievements at an award banquet held on April 21, 2015. One of those young women honored, Katherine Myers, was selected to participate as a summer engineering intern at Logic PD. A Minnesota runner-up, Myers is a senior at Wayzata High School and plans to major in engineering or computer science at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities this fall.

“Supporting women in engineering has always been important to me and to Logic PD,” said Mona Phaff, vice president of engineering at Logic PD. “We’re proud to be a part of this program and realize the importance of mentoring young women who are pursuing careers in STEM. The excitement, capabilities and potential these young women display is truly inspirational and I’m confident they will be a part of driving tomorrow’s technology innovation. We are looking forward to having Katherine Myers join us this summer as an engineering intern.”

According to Myers, her early interest in technology was fostered by collaborating with her FIRST Lego League team for several years in various roles, including programming, building and research. She enjoys all areas of technology, particularly coding in Python, designing websites in HTML, and graphic design in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. She believes her creative side shines through in volunteering with school musicals, specifically mentoring middle school students in costume design. She is a member of the National Honor Society and recently completed her senior volunteer project with Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners.

In addition to support from Logic PD, pillar sponsors of this year’s program included companies such as Advance IT Minnesota, Land O’Lakes, Maverick Software Consulting, SPS Commerce and Symantec. Other sponsors included some of the Twin Cities best-known companies including Best Buy, Cargill, General Mills, Microsoft and Securian.
