CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union announces the dates for its spring Shred Days event. In Harrisonburg, Shred Day is set for 9am–1pm, Sat., April 25,  at 42 Terri Drive; in Alexandria, the date is Sat., May 9, 9am–2pm, 4875 Eisenhower Ave. An identical event is also held in the fall each year.

Members are encouraged to bring old documents, receipts and other personal materials to Shred Days to be securely destroyed – free on site, while you wait. This popular event, open to members as well as community residents, is a valuable tool that helps protect against identity theft and fraud.

“Holding the event on a Saturday makes it more convenient to participate,” said Charlotte Cash, President and CEO of CommonWealth One. She noted that while Shred Days has always been popular with members, it is becoming especially popular with the community. Last year in Harrisonburg, twice as many community residents as members participated; in Alexandria, it was nearly evenly split between the two groups.
Offering it to community residents is part of CommonWealth One’s commitment to the community at large. “It exposes us to residents who might not otherwise be familiar with the credit union, and it increases the number of people who are fighting back against identity fraud,” Charlotte Cash said. “Providing a secure way to dispose of sensitive personal documents helps us raise awareness of the growing threat of identity fraud,” she added.

Members and the community are encouraged to contact CommonWealth One first before bringing more than 3 Xerox boxes per shred event.
