Acer Wins Three Good Design Awards of Japan
Acer announces that three of its products have been honored at this year’s Good Design Awards of Japan, including the Liquid Jade smartphone, Aspire R 13 convertible notebook and Aspire V Nitro series notebooks.
“We are delighted that three of our devices have been honored at this year’s Good Design Award and for the second consecutive year, an Acer smartphone has been recognized,” said Seji Peng, associate vice president of Acer’s Industrial Design BU. “These three devices exemplify our commitment to create outstanding value for users, not only in terms of accessibility and functionality, but also in offering emotional designs that enhance peoples’ happiness and enjoyment.”
The 5-inch Acer Liquid Jade smartphone features one of the lightest and most compact form factors in its category, measuring in at 7.5 mm thin and weighing just 110 g. It is designed with a beautifully curved ergonomic outline that gives it an elegant look and makes it very comfortable to grasp in one hand, while the Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 display offers increased durability. The Liquid Jade is the second consecutive Acer smartphone to win a Good Design Award, following the Acer Liquid Z3’s win in 2013. The Liquid Jade was unveiled at Computex Taipei 2014 and is already available in select markets worldwide.
Less than 17.95 mm thin and just over 1.5 kg, the Acer Aspire R 13 convertible notebook incorporates the unique Acer Ezel Aero Hinge™ that provides both flexibility and stability. The 13.3-inch display is affixed to this special hinge at the sides, which allows the screen to rotate 180-degrees so it can be used in six different ways. The Aspire R 13’s touchscreen and outer lid are both encased in a slim, but strong, sheet of Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3, making them tough yet beautiful. The Aspire R 13 can be used with an optional Acer Active Pen for drawing, creating and collaborating. The pen works with Acer’s exclusive pen-enabled software, Acer Hover Access, which is pre-installed on all models, and features applications for work or play. The Aspire R 13 was announced at IFA Berlin 2014 and named by Laptop magazine as the ‘Best of IFA 2014’ for ‘Best Hybrid.’ It will be available in Pan America in October and in EMEA, Asia in November.
Available in 15-inch and 17-inch models, Acer Aspire V Nitro series notebooks offer cutting-edge graphics and speedy processing power, combined with stylish and sophisticated designs characterized by sharp angles and slim profiles. They are crafted with soft touch NIL Technology (Nanoimprint Lithography) along with a durable, sleek metal finish combined with intricate patterns on the lid for a unique tactile effect. The series also features a spacious backlit keyboard with edgy red lighting that will aid usage in low-light environments. Aspire V Nitro series notebooks are currently available in select markets in Asia, EMEA and Pan America.
The Good Design award system was founded in 1957 by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, and has been given to outstanding designs for more than 50 years in the spirit of promoting prosperity and industrial development. Approximately 3,000 submissions from more than 1,000 companies and designers are received every year. These designs are screened by about 60 international design experts, who select and recommend those designs worthy of the Good Design Award.
