Slic Network Solutions Assumes New Active Role with Telecommunication’s Innovation Community, Presenting Lessons Learned for Rural Broadband
Telecom Council Announces New Member Slic Network Solutions
“The objective of the Council is to connect decision makers from companies building and maintaining networks with decision makers from companies innovating new products and services for those networks,” said Liz Kerton, President of The Telecom Council of Silicon Valley.
The Telecom Council of Silicon Valley today announced that Slic Network Solutions has joined 120 of telecommunication’s innovation community as a Telecom Council Member. The partnership will provide Slic Network Solutions with a platform to influence the next generation of industry advancements, discover innovative technologies, and build partnerships with other companies on the leading edge of telecom.
The Telecom Council welcomes Slic Network Solutions to the innovation community including: 50+ global telcos like Verizon, NTT, Vodafone, China Mobile, and Tata Communications; top tier vendors like Qualcomm, Nvidia, Sony, Cisco, Silicon Image, and Huawei; investors like Docomo Capital, Nokia Growth Partners, Roger Venture Partners, Ericsson Strategic Investments; and scores of startups. “The objective of the Council is to connect decision makers from companies building and maintaining networks with decision makers from companies innovating new products and services for those networks,” said Liz Kerton, President of The Telecom Council of Silicon Valley. “It’s with that objective in mind, that we’re honored to continue to include companies like Slic Network Solutions which promotes innovative ideas and leadership both behind their corporate firewall and across the telecom industry.”
Slic Networks Solutions’ debut with the Telecom Council culminated with a keynote presentation on Wednesday, June 11. Slic President & CTO Phil Wagschal shared lessons learned on scaling rural broadband quickly and sustainably, including: securing federal and state funding, negotiating affordable pole rights, transitioning company culture, and designing a maintainable network. Slic is leading the industry by example with a proven model to expand broadband into rural areas of New York’s Adirondack North Country.
Slic’s leadership in the industry was recognized earlier this month at the NY Broadband Summit where the NYS Broadband Program Office awarded Wagschal with its first Extraordinary Broadband Leader Award. “We are so pleased that Phil Wagschal can share his insights on the last mile for broadband to the innovative carriers of the Silicon Valley’s Telecom Council. As the recipient of the 2014 New York State Broadband Leadership Award, Phil embodies the commitment and resourcefulness of our local providers to expand broadband availability into unserved rural communities. He has helped shape Slic Network Solutions to become the model for other rural operators,” stated David Salway, Executive Director, NYS Broadband Program Office.
Mark Dzwonczyk, CEO of Slic’s parent company, Nicholville Telephone Company, and Silicon Valley resident, remarked about Slic’s critical role in often-overlooked markets that are unserved by high-speed internet access. “Nearly 25% of rural America remains unserved by broadband access. Reliable internet access is critical for economic growth and bridging the digital divide that often separates the households between well-connected areas such as Silicon Valley and more remote communities like the Adirondacks. We are so pleased to join the Telecom Council to further share our successes with fiber-to-the-home and wireless last mile solutions.”
