About the author
Mark Ballett is a business mentor, the founder of Business Growth Guides and a commentator (markballett.com).

He has extensive experience in the leadership and management of small and large businesses in a range of sectors and countries. He studied Corporate Finance at London Business School and has an MBA from Warwick Business School.

His career began as an officer in the Royal Navy after which he went on to study Geology at Durham University and joined BP as an exploration geologist, searching for oil and buying and selling acreage around the world.

He has more than 20 years of corporate experience, which includes running and turning around the Mercury Payphones business, part of the UK’s Cable & Wireless Group, where he also lead the successful turnaround of three large and complex business units with 1000 plus staff and significant cash flows, then becoming Supply Director where he cut stock from £140m to less than £20m.

As MD of Norweb Telecom he grew the business from £11m to £100m turnover in two years. He also raised £80m with private equity and banking partners to start the first business broadband company in the UK, OnCue Communications, and took the business from start up to 150 staff and £1m turnover in just 18 months. His European and international business management includes working for the pan- European, Storm Telecom as non-executive director and Group CEO of EXI Telecom, the international business that operated in UK, Africa, Asia and the Middle East and installed mobile phone networks in 15 countries.

Since 2003, Mark has been working with some of the most successful small businesses in the UK, mentoring both owners and managers and helping their businesses to grow and develop. Most recently he has set up Business Growth Guide,  an online business mentoring service that offers members monthly strategy webinars, Skype mentoring and advice sessions and access to guides to help small businesses grow.
