Southern Wine & Spirits to Save Millions With IBM Wireless Warehouse
MIAMI, FL - 23 Jun 2006: IBM has completed design and installation of a wireless warehouse system for Southern Wine & Spirits that is expected to save the nation’s largest wine and spirits distributor more than $4 million a year.
IBM completed the work on the 650,000 square foot warehouse -- the size of eight football fields, and the largest beverage distribution facility in the state of Florida -- in less than seven months. Work began after Southern Wine & Spirits combined three separate distribution sites into one large warehouse to reduce errors and improve efficiencies.
“Since the completion of the wireless warehouse system, we can fill customer orders more efficiently with far greater accuracy than before,” said Jason Witty, Director of Information Technology for Southern Wine & Spirits’ Florida operations. “IBM has helped us achieve an infrastructure that is stable, resilient and a foundation for future technology.”
IBM designed a VoIP telephony system that allows employees to use wireless communication throughout the entire facility. The system deployed was designed to support the Lakeland facility and act as a hub for all of Southern Wine & Spirits’ distribution facilities.
In addition to providing the integration services such as site surveys, project management, and network installation, IBM collaborated with Cisco, a Premier IBM Business Partner, to complete the project on time and under budget.
The wireless warehouse solution includes Cisco Call Manager, Unity voicemail and unified messaging solutions and wireless radio frequency handheld devices from Symbol Technologies.
