Montreal, Canada - 02/21/2005 The 4th Annual JoBlo.com Movie Awards (aka The Golden Schmoes) nominations have been announced and the online voting will take place from February 18-24, 2005, with winners to be broadcast on the 25th of February, two days before the Oscar winners are chosen. Anyone with access to the Internet can vote now and for free.

Unlike most prestigious movie award nominations, the JoBlo.com nominees were picked entirely by movie fans, and with over 55,000+ votes counted, dwindled down to the top 5 in each category. The final voting will take place at www.goldenschmoes.com.

This year’s top nominated films were Kill Bill: Volume II (16 nominations), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (11), Garden State (11), Collateral (11), Spider-Man 2 (9), Hellboy (5) and Shaun of the Dead (5). The Butterfly Effect and Saw were also well represented.

Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro said of his film’s nominations, “Hellboy for the GS!!! 5 NOMS!!! Yipee!!! I have an erection -- finally!”, while Edgar Wright, director of Shaun of the Dead proclaimed, “These nominations are awesome news. Even if we got an Oscar nomination for best use of Queen in a zombie / poolcue interface, it couldn’t beat the sheer elation of these 5 nods.”

Site founder and CEO, Berge Garabedian, aka JoBlo , said, “Being our fourth year, it’s nice to see the awards growing in popularity, with filmmakers and fans alike, getting involved to make it their own kudos for the industry, and not just a ’critics’ arena.”

The Golden Schmoes include 29 categories, including the more typical ones like “Favorite Movie” and “Best Actress”, but also unique categories like “Best T&A in a Movie”, “Best Line of the Year”, “Most Memorable Scene of the Year”, “Coolest Character in a Movie”, “Most Underrated Movie of the Year” and many others.

“I always thought it was funny that movie-going audiences had absolutely no say in the year-end awards, even though they’re ultimately the ones buying the movie tickets, paying the actors’ salaries and keeping the movie industry thriving year in and year out.” said Garabedian. “Movie fans should continue to voice their opinions and challenge the more traditional award shows.”
