Retailers can expand shop floor without having to move

Retailers have discovered a way in which to expand the amount of space they have on their shop floor without needing to invest in a permanent extension or move to new premises, leading shop fittings supplier Displaysense has claimed.

The firm has seen a significant increase in the number of retailers enquiring about the range of cafe barriers it offers.

Such display solutions have traditionally been used by cafes, restaurants and bars to create an outdoor seating area for customers - and advertise the establishment on the barriers themselves.

And now it appears that retailers have started to notice the benefits of using such devices to help extend the size of their shop floor.

Jim Moody, Displaysense marketing manager, comments: “For years cafe barriers have served as the perfect way for cafes and restaurants to increase space - and now retailers are getting involved too.”

“Increasing the amount of usable space in a shop can be difficult and expensive, but this is a cost-effective way to achieve the same effect,” he notes.

In addition to the barriers, outlets will also need to invest in some mobile display stands - such as garment rails on wheels - that can be easily moved in and out of the store each day to showcase a range of products.

Mr Moody continues: “All retailers have additional stock that is just sitting in a storeroom doing nothing. By utilising cafe barriers to create this additional space, retailers can temporarily double their existing store size - and the canvas panels are also great for advertising, enabling them to draw in more customers for promotions.”

Fashion retailers may be particularly keen on the idea, as it could allow them to put hundreds more items on sale, rather than them being stored out of sight, Mr Moody states.

And if any shop owner is worried that constantly moving garments in and out of the store could damage them, Mr Moody has a suggestion.

“To keep clothing in pristine condition, it is a good idea to buy a fabric steamer. These affordable and portable devices can quickly and easily freshen up the garments on display - and they could even be used to help keep the canvas barriers in top condition too,” he reveals.

With retailers increasingly feeling the pinch as consumer spending drops, this could be the ideal solution for businesses that are keen to expand, but are struggling to find the means to do so.

“In these difficult times, shop managers need to do everything they can to make their store stand out from the crowd. Being able to promote their store more effectively and offer customers a greater choice of products by extending their floor space is likely to help them attract more shoppers and could also result in higher sales,” Mr Moody concludes.
