Approximately 337,775 pounds of Commercial Meat Co.’s ground beef products are being recalled due to potential E. coli O157:H7 contamination, stated the Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) on October 11.

E. coli O157:H7 is a specific strain of bacteria that can cause abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, and potentially life-threatening kidney failure.

The problem with the recalled meat was discovered during a routine inspection by the FSIS, which confirmed a positive result for E. coli O157:H7. There have been no reports of illness related to the contamination.

“EMSL Analytical, Inc. tests for E. coli and other pathogens in food products,” notes Joseph Frasca, Senior VP of Marketing at EMSL. “We use various validated methods that are recognized and accepted by regulation agencies. We also offer rapid pathogen screens where appropriate and requested.”
