Spring Makeover for Scripta Materialia

WEBWIRE

Oxford, May 12, 2006 – Scripta Materialia, companion journal to Acta Materialia, has been redesigned in a new letters format. The new look addresses the changing needs of authors and readers, providing a forum for rapid publication of cutting edge research in materials science and engineering and providing a clear visual distinction between the two companion journals. Scripta papers will be limited in length and address new results of high current interest and significance, while the Acta papers will remain full length.

Scripta Materialia will continue to emphasize the understanding of structural materials and expand coverage of functional materials. It will cover metals and alloys, ceramics, semiconductors and polymers. Emphasis is on those aspects of science and engineering of materials that provide an understanding of: the relationship between the microstructure of materials and their properties including mechanical, electrical, magnetic, optical and chemical properties; the relationship between the microstructure of materials and the thermodynamics kinetics and mechanisms of processes occurring within solids; the synthesis and processing of materials, with emphasis on microstructural mechanisms and control; the modeling and simulation of microstructure and properties of materials and advances in the characterization of the microstructure and properties of materials.

In addition, Scripta Materialia will continue to encourage the submission of comments on papers published in Scripta Materialia and Acta Materialia. The journal will also publish Viewpoint Sets, a collection of short articles on focused topics of current interest within the scope of the journal and coordinated by the Scripta editors and invited guest editors.
