Creedmoor Electronics Recycling Plant Ready for Enforcement of State Mandate on Electronics

WEBWIRE

Creedmoor, NC – June 16, 2011. Just as a new North Carolina state mandate (Session Law 2010-67) regarding electronics recycling begins enforcement on July 1, 2011, Metech Recycling (www.metechrecycling.com) expands its operations in Creedmoor to serve the region. The new state mandate requires all electronics and computer equipment, including monitors, printers, scanners and peripherals such as mice and keyboards, to be recycled.

The volume of electronic waste has grown exponentially over the past decade. Most electronic waste contains lead, mercury, and other toxic substances. The need to keep this toxic material out of landfills prompted the NC legislature to pass the mandate last year. Businesses and residents have also become more aware of the risks of identity theft associated with data contained on hard drives and other memory devices. Metech Recycling not only offers recycling services that meet the highest environmental standards but also offers secure and safe shredding of data devices to ensure private information cannot be retrieved and used.

Metech Recycling was founded in 1968 and opened its first facility in North Carolina in 2008. The company recently expanded its Creedmoor facility to 120,000 sq. ft. to accommodate additional electronics dismantling and CRT processing. Cathode ray tubes (CRT’s) are the glass tubes in televisions and monitors that pose a special hazard due to their high lead content. Metech Recycling uses unique equipment that separates the funnel and panel glass with a laser so that it can be recycled in glass smelting operations. Metech Recycling’s Creedmoor expansion also created 22 new jobs in the area.

For businesses and others seeking to comply with the new state mandate to recycle electronics, Metech Recycling offers convenience and credibility. In March, Metech became a BAN Certified e-Stewards® Recycler – the only company in the region with this designation. Certified e-Stewards® Recyclers meet the highest environmental standards in the industry.

Convenient to the Triangle and Research Triangle Park as well as Wake Forest, Winston-Salem, and Greensboro, Metech Recycling offers pick up services for businesses and organizations. Residents may drop off materials for recycling during business hours and the company also collaborates with many local organizations to conduct community recycling collection events. Tours of the facility are available.

Metech Recycling (www.metechrecycling.com) is a national leading electronics waste recycler that provides complete materials processing and certified documentation of data device destruction. The company operates recycling facilities in California, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, North Carolina, and Massachusetts. Metech Recycling is a BAN Certified e-Stewards Recycler® and ISO 9001:2008 certified and ISO 14001:2004 certified and meets the highest standards for electronics recycling.
