MINNEAPOLIS - Multi-Tech® Systems, a world leading manufacturer of cellular modems and device networking solutions, along with Physio-Control, Inc., a global leader in emergency medical solutions, received a 2011 Value Chain Award on June 15, 2011 at the annual Connected World Conference in the Chicagoland area. The Awards recognize the most successful adopters of M2M (machine-to-machine) communications technology and the teams of solution providers that made their successes possible.

Selected by a panel of top industry analysts and experts, the awards highlight the process of combining multiple technologies, such as the carrier-certified Multi-Tech cellular modems and professional services, and the Physio-Control portable cardiac monitors/defibrillators and web-based data network to create a winning solution.

Physio-Control’s LIFEPAK® monitor/defibrillators, combined with the company’s web-based LIFENET®System, use M2M technology to connect field and hospital care teams with critical patient data ahead of the patient’s arrival at the hospital. For heart attack patients, “time is muscle.” Getting the right data to the right people at the right time allows care teams to be better prepared, streamline workflows, operate more efficiently, and help reduce time to treatment for patients, thereby improving the chances for a better outcome. Medics in the field use the LIFEPAK device to capture patient data, such as a 12-lead ECG and vital signs, and then send this information to hospitals via the internet using M2M technology. The LIFENET System alerts care teams and distributes the information so that the appropriate caregivers are notified, make appropriate diagnosis decisions, and prepare for the patient. Multi-Tech modems enable real-time data transmission via cellular communications.

“Multi-Tech proved to be a valuable partner in getting our product to market quickly. Its pre-approved modems allowed us to deploy our solutions anywhere in the world without needing to pursue additional certifications. We also worked with Multi-Tech to implement a global standard for gateway connectivity products for our LIFEPAK 12/15 product line,” said Randy Merry, vice president of LIFENET, Business Development and External Innovation at Physio-Control. “In addition, Multi-Tech helped us develop a customized interface for use as a gateway with the LIFEPAK defibrillator.”
