General Mills ranks 3rd on IDG Computerworld’s 2011 list of the Best Places to Work in Information Technology in America

Today IDG’s Computerworld announces that General Mills is the 3rd most desirable company in America for Information Technology(IT) professionals according to its 2011 Best Places to Work in IT list. General Mills has made the annual list for 13 years and has been in the top ten for the last five years.

“At General Mills IT careers are exciting and contribute directly to the company’s competitiveness around the world,” said Mike Martiny, vice president of Information Systems for General Mills. “We provide employees with engaging jobs and a career-long commitment to development, which we believe helps us attract and retain the talent we need to drive our business forward. We also have fun, and at the heart of our culture are events such as the annual Food Drive and our annual Summer Picnic.”

Computerworld cites the company’s flexibility options and great benefits as two of the reasons it ranks so highly on the list in a feature article on the winners that appears in the current issue of Computerworld magazine and online at www.computerworld.com.

Not only do General Mills’ IT employees work on projects that support the company’s iconic brands, such as Cheerios, Betty Crocker, Green Giant, and Pillsbury, but they also have the opportunity to work on exciting digital marketing projects, mobility applications, development of social media networks for collaboration internally and externally, as well as solutions for the company’s increasingly global business.

“To be among the Best Places to Work in IT, it’s not enough to seek out and hire the most talented IT professionals, offer them competitive pay and provide great benefits,“ said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. ”Smart IT people realize that they need to get up to speed on their employer’s revenue opportunities. The organizations that made this year’s Best Places to Work list are creating a work environment that both trains and encourages IT personnel to pursue business-driven priorities.”

Methodology
Since 1994, Computerworld’s annual “Best Places to Work in IT” feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals, based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention.
