New Sun N1 Advanced Architecture for SAP Solutions Integrated with SAP Adaptive Computing to Automate Application Deployment, Increase Utilization and Improve Availability for Solaris 10 Customers.

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. May 8, 2006 Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) today announced the Sun N1 Advanced Architecture for SAP Solutions to provide end-to-end provisioning and management of SAP applications across virtualized heterogeneous environments, including the Solaris 10 Operating System (OS). Sun and SAP have collaborated to create this product that can streamline customers’ IT processes and help reduce overall management complexity and operating costs, while improving resource utilization and enhancing application availability.

The Sun N1 Advanced Architecture for SAP Solutions enables enterprise companies with large IT environments to consolidate and virtualize their SAP application landscape. By dynamically optimizing SAP application functions and modules to match appropriate hardware, the system utilization is improved while deployment time and operating costs are reduced.

“By collaborating with SAP, we’ve created a product that can benefit any company that’s looking for a way to streamline the cost and complexity of their deployment,” said Tom Goguen, vice president of System Software at Sun Microsystems. “The new offering brings together Sun’s strength in management software, operating systems, platform infrastructure, and professional services to help large enterprises design, implement, and optimally manage solutions in SAP application environments.”

The new offering gives customers a total Sun solution for SAP Adaptive Computing landscapes. The N1 Advanced Architecture for SAP Solutions is certified for compliance with SAP Adaptive Computing for managing SAP NetWeaver applications, which helps customers to further simplify their hardware and software infrastructure and drive down overall complexity to new lows. SAP customers can take advantage of the N1 Advanced Architecture for SAP Solutions to virtualize and manage their heterogeneous data center applications. This includes backup, archiving or other E-Business Solutions, while using SAP Adaptive Computing Controller. With SAP’s migration to an Enterprise Services Architecture (ESA) to provide building blocks to automate business scenarios, it is imperative to take a complete data center view to improve business agility. ESA is intended to move IT architectures to dramatically higher levels of adaptability and the vision of a real-time enterprise.

The new N1 Advanced Architecture for SAP Solutions is an extension of the Sun N1 Service Provisioning System. The new Service Provisioning System 5.2.1 simplifies the life-cycle management by rapidly provisioning business services across heterogeneous environments. By leveraging the core provisioning and management capabilities, N1 Advanced Architecture provides sophisticated customization specific to SAP applications and business processes. The N1 family also includes Sun N1 System Manager 1.3 and N1 Grid Engine 6. N1 System Manager provides comprehensive system infrastructure life-cycle management capabilities for Sun Fire x64 and SPARC servers. The N1 Grid Engine provides optimized job scheduling and workload management for High Performance Computing grids.

The N1 products can be downloaded for free through the Solaris Enterprise System -- a risk-free method to evaluate, develop, and deploy Sun software. For more information and free product downloads, please visit: http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/get.jsp
