Delphi’s innovative low-cost, high-power inverter helps reduce emissions and improve fuel economy

VIENNA, Austria — Delphi Automotive will highlight its green technologies, including an innovative low-cost, high power inverter at the International Vienna Motor Symposium. The symposium will take place May 5-6 at the Congress Center in Vienna, Austria.

Innovative Low-Cost, High-Power Inverters from Delphi

Part of the electrified powertrain, the inverter converts DC (direct current) from a high-voltage vehicle battery pack into the AC (alternating current) voltage, which is needed to efficiently drive the vehicle’s electric motor. Delphi’s low-cost, high-power inverter incorporates proprietary power semiconductor packaging technology developed to help manufacturers offer vehicles that meet fuel economy and emissions regulations at a more affordable cost. The newly developed package enables higher current and power density which, when coupled with double-side cooling reduces semiconductor area, a benefit that helps decrease the cost, size and weight of the inverter while increasing overall reliability.

“Delphi is committed to developing innovative hybrid and electric vehicle technologies that increase fuel economy, reduce emissions, and help make electrified vehicles an appealing consumer choice,” said Volker Weisgerber, chief engineer, Power Electronics Europe.

Delphi’s Power Electronics portfolio includes hybrid and electric vehicle controllers, on-board battery chargers, battery management systems, DC/DC converters, inverters and energy storage systems.
