Canon Introduces Its Newest Addition To Its Family Of Portable Digital Radiography Systems At SCAR Show

Canon Expands Its Line of Portable DR Systems With The New CXDI-50C To Provide High-Quality, Filmless Image Capture with Minimal X-Ray Exposure for Patients

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., April 26, 2006 - Taking portable digital radiography (DR) technology to a new level, Canon U.S.A., Inc., will showcase the latest addition to its family of portable DR systems - the Canon CXDI-50C - at the Society for Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR) Show, April 27th-30th, in Austin, Texas.

The Canon CXDI-50C portable, lightweight DR system provides high quality, filmless image capture for a broad range of radiographic applications, including trauma, ICU and bedside exams. The large 14-inch x 17-inch imaging area and portable design - just under an inch thick (0.9 inches) and weighing only 10.6 lbs - allow the Canon CXDI-50C DR system to be especially useful with patients who have limited mobility and for capturing images at angles that are difficult to set with fixed devices.

“All Canon DR systems help to reduce exam times, increase patient throughput and can contribute to substantial cost and labor savings. This new high sensitivity DR system will deliver images at low X-ray doses, especially important when imaging children and the chronically ill,” said Tsuneo Imai, director and general manager, Canon Medical Systems. “The new Canon CXDI-50C DR system can help to deliver amazing efficiency and effectiveness, allowing users to preview images seconds after exposure, and capture subtle contrast and fine image details that might otherwise appear over or underexposed on conventional film.”

Featuring proprietary, advanced Canon LANMIT (Large Area New-MIS Sensor and TFT) detector technology, the Canon CXDI-50C DR system delivers high-quality diagnostic images efficiently with minimal X-ray exposure to patients, making it ideal for pediatric and orthopedic use. This new portable DR system consists of a Canon Amorphous Silicon (a-Si) Flat Panel Detector and a Cesium Iodide (CsI) scintillator, allowing for extremely effective X-ray absorption and high signal-to-noise performance.

The Canon CXDI-50C DR System has network capability and is compatible with the latest standards for medical device communication, including the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM ®) Standard. Its highly versatile Ethernet 10/100 Base T connectivity and DICOM 3.0 compatibility enables seamless data transfer to any DICOM hard copy output device, Picture Archival Communication System (PACS) or Radiology Information System (RIS) for printing, archiving and remote viewing of images.
