Compact, upgradeable solution enables programmers to deliver an expanded set of services to affiliates

LAS VEGAS — 25 April 2006 — Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today introduced a new integrated receiver decoder (IRD) that enables broadcasters and cable programmers to deliver a variety of digital content formats to their affiliates from one multifunction device. The new Motorola DSR-4530 showcased at NAB is based on a new, expandable platform that supports an internal hard drive, 8 Phase Shift Keying (8PSK) reception, and dual radio frequency (RF) tuners for seamless service changes.

The latest in Motorola’s leading portfolio of video delivery solutions, the DSR-4530 is equipped with standard video and audio outputs, a gigabit Ethernet output for content deliver onto IP networks, and can be equipped with an internal hard drive for operation with the just-announced Motorola On-Target System. The one rack-unit (1RU) DSR-4530 is also compatible with Motorola’s DigiCipher® II conditional access and encryption system and can be integrated into most DigiCipher II networks.

The DSR-4530 also includes advanced watermarking capabilities, which allows content to be ‘marked’ with a unique unit address. This will enable content owners to determine the network origination point of content that may be redistributed.

“With its dense, scalable design and broad range of interface compatibilities, the Motorola DSR-4530 is a practical, cost-effective means of delivering the advanced services that programmers choose to offer,” said Doug Means, Motorola corporate vice president and general manager, Connected Home Solutions. “The Motorola DSR-4530 enables operators to meet aggressive digital network rollout requirements today while preparing for advanced content delivery services.”

The DSR-4530 includes 8 RF input ports so that the unit can be rack-wired to feeds from up to eight satellite transponders, enabling access to content from virtually any satellite feed. Additionally, the Motorola DSR-4530 includes two RF tuners to accommodate seamless switchovers between two satellite feeds when emergencies, blackouts, or other alternate programming situations occur. The front end of the DSR-4530 also includes a software configurable tuner so that moving from QPSK to 8PSK transmission to achieve higher throughput from C and Ku band transponders can be accomplished through a software download.
