High Traffic Websites Rely on GeoTrust SSL over Any Other Certificate Authority, Surpassing All Competitors

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - As one of the busiest online shopping seasons closes, the December 2010 Alexa-Netcraft SSL Index reported that the most-visited websites protected their visitors with GeoTrust, Inc., a leading certificate authority (CA).

According to the report, GeoTrust maintained its leadership position and trumped low-cost competitors such as Go Daddy for the seventh straight month, securing 35,540 unique domains among the Internet’s 1 million most visited websites. Go Daddy registered 27,578 unique domains for the same period.

Compiled monthly by CatapultWorks, the Alexa-Netcraft SSL Index obtains an accurate picture of SSL certificate usage across the websites that matter most by cross-referencing the Netcraft SSL Survey with the Alexa Top Sites list. The Netcraft SSL survey tallies all public-facing SSL certificates on the Internet. The Alexa 1 Million is a well-known site traffic measurement service that ranks the 1 million most visited sites in order of popularity. Since its inception in May 2010, the Alexa-Netcraft SSL Index has dismissed Go Daddy’s claims of being the leader in the low-cost SSL category.

“GeoTrust is consistently leading the low-cost, high-volume segment of the SSL market over competitors such as Go Daddy,” said Jeff Barto, senior product marketing manager for GeoTrust. “We expect to continue our lead into 2011 on the strength of our global service reach, convenience, attractive prices and product reputation.”
