New Releases Win Industry Awards, Product Reviews and Performance Benchmarks

SAN JOSE, Calif.—April 17, 2006—BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BEAS), a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced continued momentum around WebLogic Server.

“WebLogic Server has had a tremendous year, and the platform isn’t showing any signs of slowing down,” said Wai Wong, executive vice president, products. “In addition to having released an impressive number of new features, updates and applications under the WebLogic banner, sales have been growing faster than the market. In the last year alone, we’ve seen a 12 percent increase in year-over-year licensing revenue, faster than market growth expectations, suggesting that we are taking share away from our competition.”

WebLogic Server continues to dominate rival software vendors IBM, JBoss and Oracle in three primary areas: product releases/updates, benchmark scores and reviews/awards.

“At BEA, we’re continuing to invest in the things that make WebLogic the most innovative, manageable and highest performance application server,” said Dave Douglas, chief architect, WebLogic. It is our mission to extend WebLogic’s leadership as the industry’s top platform to build, blend and deploy service-enabled applications.”

BEA WebLogic 9.0 helps reduce costs and delivers high performance
BEA WebLogic Server 9.0 can help the overall cost of management and operations while delivering high reliability, continuous uptime, and scalability for mission-critical applications. The time-tested, enterprise-grade kernel supports maximum uptime with advanced failover features, clustering and hot-swappable application deployment. The blended development model is designed to enable choice and flexibility leveraging traditional Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) development paradigms and open source frameworks. Advanced administration and management capabilities can provide a proactive ‘fix it before it breaks’ system.

“Our customers rely on eHealthInsurance.com to deliver up-to-the-minute information on the health insurance options available to them and their families. Considering the magnitude of consumers that visit the site every day, it is absolutely essential that the underlying platform be robust enough to support heavy volumes of site traffic,” said Sheldon Wang, Chief Technology Officer at eHealthInsurance.com. “We use BEA WebLogic Server to run all of our customer-facing, mission-critical applications and are very pleased with the high performance and next-to-zero downtime the solution is enabling us to achieve. We are in the midst of upgrading to WebLogic Server 9.0, and look forward to taking advantage of the enhanced features and functionality in that version.”

Since July 2005, BEA has announced numerous updates and releases to WebLogic ™ including, BEA WebLogic Workshop®, BEA Kodo, BEA WebLogic RFID, BEA WebLogic SIP Server™, WebLogic Mobility Server™ and BEA WebLogic Real Time™. For more information, visit www.bea.com/weblogic.

WebLogic continues to blow competition away
WebLogic Server continues to provide unprecedented performance and scalability. WebLogic Server currently holds the top three performance throughput records and has demonstrated its ability to scale linearly. These benchmarks also show that WebLogic can process the same number of transactions as IBM WebSphere with only half the application server CPUs. SPECjAppServer is an independently designed and validated industry-standard benchmark that measures the performance of JEE technology-based application servers. The benchmark is specifically designed to test JEE in a standard platform for development of portable, scalable, multi-tier enterprise applications. The latest test results prove once again that BEA is committed to providing its customers with the highest possible performance at the lowest total-cost-of-ownership (TCO). IBM hasn’t published a benchmark since October 2005. Oracle and JBoss have not published any performance benchmarks to date.

WebLogic receives industry rave reviews
On March 10, 2006, WebLogic received high marks in an InfoWorld product review. The review called WebLogic “a superior product that extends BEA’s established reputation for high-quality, enterprise-class app servers” and went on to further comment, “BEA should be at the head of any short list of enterprise servers.” The evaluation was based on a 10-point scale and looked at criteria such as interoperability, features, management, scalability, security and value.

WebLogic has also won several other awards including: Capital magazine 2006 Outstanding Server Application Service Provider award, China’s InformationWorld 2005 Editor’s Choice award; China Software World’s 2005 Golden Software award for providing the best support to SOA and being the best SOA platform; and WebLogic SIP Server named INTERNET TELEPHONY Magazine’s “Product of the Year” Award for 2005.

In addition, WebLogic Server has been recognized by industry professionals. In February 2006, WLS received both a Java Developer’s Journal 2005 Reader’s Choice Award for Best Application Server and a SOA Web Services Journal 2005 Reader’s Choice Award for Best Application Server for SOA/Web Services.

“Many of our customers are running mission-critical applications on WebLogic Server and are seeing excellent results,” said Rod Johnson, founder of the Spring Framework and Chief Executive Officer of Interface21, the company largely responsible for the vision and leadership of the Spring framework. “WebLogic has always been a high-quality platform, and release 9.0 delivers even more functionality in areas crucial to the enterprise, such as clustering, security and management. The JRockit virtual machine technology is impressive and further adds to overall performance.”
