Cisco to Showcase Latest in Video Innovation for Cable and Broadcast Industry at IBC 2010

IBC 2010 Technical Demos Highlights:

The IBC 2010 demonstration stand will be divided in main areas that will showcase to conference delegates and exhibition visitors showcasing next-generation video encoding, video distribution, video contribution over IP, and Cisco media data center technologies respectively.

* The Next Generation Video Encoding demonstration will showcase the latest broadcast quality video encoding platform, the D9036 multi-service encoder. The platform can provide up to 8 channels of SD broadcast quality video or 4 channels of HD video from a single 1RU device, transforming the capex and opex costs of operators while at the same time providing enhanced video quality – an at least 15% improvement over previous generation devices.
* The Multi-format Video Processor demonstration was designed specifically to debut at IBC 2010, and will demonstrate how Cisco’s Digital Content Manager (DCM) can convert any broadcast format to any other broadcast format. This includes taking incoming content in SD or HD, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 and transcoding or transrating as required.
* Cisco has a wide portfolio of professional satellite receivers designed for working with open standard Conditional Access systems and also with enhanced security with Cisco’s PowerVu system. This static display will show the range of receivers including two exciting new additions such as D9865 – business satellite receiver and DCM Dense Receiver Decryptor – a new option module for the DCM providing the ability to received from DVB-S or DVB-S2 and descramble a high volume of services in a single module.
* The Video Contribution over IP demonstration will highlight the latest low latency, ultra high-quality video capabilities of the DCM IP Video Gateway – showing uncompressed and JPEG2000 compressed video over Ethernet.

The Cisco Media Data Center demonstration illustrates how encoding, streaming, content security and other functions that once required purpose built hardware are now being “virtualized” and delivered via a unified computing platform that helps content providers and service providers to deliver their applications in a flexible, scalable, and lossless way – over Ethernet – with standard hardware that reduces operations costs and simplifies upgrades.

Additionally, visitors will be able to walk through the Consumer Experience pavilion where they can get an understanding of how Cisco is working with its partners and customers to bring the latest technology to the viewers’ fingertips in collaboration with a number of partners and customers including TiVo and Orca Interactive, with its content discovery platform COMPASS. The experience features innovative solutions such as Open Client Platform, Cable Video Gateway, new Content Discovery concepts, Cloud to the Home - IPTV STB and VDOC Mediaroom.
