Carson Toyota Confirms, Toyota Leads Vehicle Manufacturers With Lowest Insurance Claims For Theft

August 4, 2010 – Carson, Calif. – Carson Toyota confirms, Toyota led all manufacturers with the most models ranking in the top 10 for lowest insurance claims for stolen vehicles. The three models included the Prius Hybrid, Tacoma 4x4 Double Cab pickup truck and Sienna all-wheel-drive van.
The 10 top-ranked vehicles have overall theft losses of less than 15 percent of the average claims. The overall theft losses take into account not only the rate at which insurance claims are filed but also the size of the payments for claims.

The average payment for a theft claim for the 10 best vehicles was less than one-third of the overall average. The rankings covered insurance theft losses for 2007-09 passenger vehicles.
The Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI), an affiliate of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, published the rankings.
