HPD Introduces New SCCA National Contingency Program

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Honda Performance Development (HPD) has released details of a new 2010 Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) National Contingency Award program, providing support for additional SCCA National Racing classes and initiating awards for Honda and Acura IT participants at the American Road Race of Champions (ARRC) at Road Atlanta.

In SCCA National Championship Club Racing, in addition to the classes supported by previous programs, HPD has added support for the Super Touring category (STO, STU); Formula F racers using the Honda Fit engine; and additional classes – such as CSR, DSR and FA – in which competitors use Honda engines. Payouts include $200 for a National race win, $100 for second and $50 for third; and are retroactive to the start of the 2010 season.

Additional enhancements for Honda/Acura competitors at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs will be announced in the near future.

At the annual ARRC for Regional SCCA racers, HPD will provide cash awards to Honda/Acura sprint-race competitors in ITA, ITB, ITC, ITS and ITR, where a Honda or Acura victory in any category will pay $500, with $300 for second and $150 for third, provided there are at least 10 competitors in the class.

To qualify for the contingency awards, Honda and Acura SCCA racers must be members of the Honda Racing Line, HPD’s support program for club and entry-level professional racers, and must feature the required HPD/Honda Racing Line graphics on their cars. Membership in the Honda Racing Line is free to SCCA competition-license holders.

Both the National and Regional contingency programs will be administered by the SCCA. National competitors must register and file claims with SCCA within 60 days of the contingency announcement to receive awards for races already completed in 2010. Regional competitors must register prior to the ARRC to qualify for awards.

SCCA National Classes included in the 2010 HPD contingency are EP, FP, HP, GT2, GT3, GTL, T2, T3, SSB, SSC, STO and STU. Competitors using Honda engines in FF, FA, CSR and DSR also are eligible for contingency awards.

Launched in July 2009, the Honda Racing Line is a program targeted at licensed participants in sanctioned amateur and entry-level professional racing. The Honda Racing Line was formed to provide its members with a direct connection to Honda Performance Development and its unparalleled record of success at the highest levels of motorsport.
