2009 Mollydooker Gigglepot Cabernet Sauvignon Rated 94/100 Points

In an exclusive tasting of their latest vintage, Mollydooker winery shared their entire 2009 portfolio of Australian wines with wine blogger Brian Pasch. Pasch visited the Mollydooker winery in April 2010 for the exclusive opportunity to be the first to taste and review the 2009 Gigglepot Cabernet Sauvignon along with the entire 2009 Mollydooker portfolio. Part of what makes Mollydooker Wines so unique is that their portfolio can vary based on the quality of fruit harvested. The vineyard fruit is scored based on its Marquis Fruit Weight™ score. For example, the Gigglepot is only produced from vineyards that have a 75% Fruit Weight score.

The Gigglepot is one of three Mollydooker Party Wines and is named after the daughter of Sarah and Sparky Marquis, owners of Mollydooker Wines. Their daughter Holly, who appears on the label, is laughing about her appearance in a pair of funny black glasses.

Only 174 cases were made in 2007 which received 94 points from Jay Miller at the Wine Advocate, 92 points from Harvey Steiman at Wine Spectator and was chosen as one of the “Editor’s Most Exciting New Wines”. The 2006 vintage was awarded 95 points by Jay Miller and 91 points by Harvey Steiman. The 2009 vintage of the Gigglepot is again in limited supply.

Pasch describes this wine as, “A massive wine with powerful fruit but also noticeable tannins.” Adding, “The 2009 Gigglepot has more noticeable tannic structure at this stage of its evolution which makes me think that this wine will last 20+ years in the cellar.” Pasch rated the 2009 Gigglepot 94/100 points.
