As has been previously reported this year’s Business North West conference, the region’s foremost business networking event, will be test-driving a brand new method of taking the conference to a wider audience using a variety of social media accounts.

In a move which is the brainchild of Manchester’s premier online marketing agency I-COM, Business North West 2009 has opened a series of accounts on some of the most popular social media sites, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, FriendFeed and Flickr, allowing conference-goers to upload updates on the progress of the event, the calibre of the speakers and links to the websites of new clients and business associates.

Tim Roberts, Managing Director of I-COM, explains: “We see this as a very exciting opportunity to demonstrate the potential of social media as a method of raising the profile of your business online.”

“Social media is a fantastic online forum which allows you to interact with clients and business contemporaries, whilst at the same time allowing you to upload a variety of media, including videos, photographs and links, thus providing your business with a much more three dimensional online presence.”

I-COM, which is exhibiting at the event, will be supplying extra PCs providing conference-goers without access to Netbooks, iPhones and Laptops, with the opportunity to participate in the online version of the conference. The online marketing experts at I-COM have even set up a Twitter account entitled ‘http://twitter.com/BNW09_Feedback’ which will be left permanently logged in at their stand for the benefit of those who don’t already have an account.

“As an online marketing agency, we are often asked to describe what social media is, and how it can be useful for your business. The Business North West 2009 experiment will hopefully be an excellent practical example.”
