Siemens Has Leading Market Share for Next-Generation of Optical Long-Haul DWDM

WEBWIRE

Boca Raton, Fla., Mar 3, 2006, Siemens Communications Inc. today announced that its 2005 global market share of optical long-haul dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) transport solutions, with reconfigurable add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) capabilities, ranked first among all vendors, according to Infonetics Research.

Siemens, with a 21 percent leading market share in 2005, benefited from strong North America sales of its SURPASS hiT 7500 long-haul DWDM solution. Siemens’ optical market momentum was especially strong in the second half of 2005, with a 28 percent fourth-quarter global market share that was more than double that of the next ranking DWDM vendor.

“The trajectory of Siemens’ long-haul DWDM ROADM revenues, based on the company’s significant international progress during 2005, has positioned the Siemens hiT 7500 platform for success well into the future,” said Michael Howard, principal analyst, Infonetics Research. “Siemens is well positioned to remain a leader of the long-haul DWDM market as it evolves into long-haul ROADM.”

The SURPASS® hiT 7500 long-haul DWDM solution is considered an industry-leader in terms of reach, feature capabilities and cost-effectiveness for long-haul and ultra-long-haul applications. Advantages of the SURPASS hiT 7500 DWDM solution include its full automation, with remote configuration of system nodes to help cut transport cost-per-bit rates, lower operational expense and shorten provisioning time. The solution’s reliability is field-proven. To date, Siemens’ long-haul DWDM networks - deployed worldwide - have performed expertly for nearly 100 million hours of operation.
