The London Development Agency congratulates the British Fashion Council on the success of the 25th London Fashion Week, which showcased emerging designer talent supported by the LDA. The three winners of this season’s Fashion Forward award - Christopher Kane, Erdem and Marios Schwab - received rave reviews for their shows.

The London Development Agency plays an important role in Fashion Week, investing £4.2 million with the British Fashion Council to promote and support the capital’s fashion industry. The investment, which runs until 2010, has helped the British Fashion Council to expand its operation, support individual designers and take London Fashion Week to new heights.

Joint Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council, Caroline Rush said:

"This year has seen the return of some major names to London Fashion Week. It’s also provided a platform to celebrate some of London’s emerging designers, the future of the industry.

"The LDA-funded Fashion Forward Programme, this year supported three emerging designers to showcase their collections at Fashion Week. Christopher Kane, Erdem and Marios Schwab - three of London’s rising stars - received support and business advice through the programme.

“We have come a long way over the past 25 years. With the LDA’s backing, we are developing London Fashion Week to provide more opportunities for British designers to reach global audiences.”

London Development Agency Marketing Group Director Lurene Joseph said:

“Fashion plays a big part in London’s economic success. It is fantastic that our investment in the British Fashion Council has generated such impressive results, with growing sales from London Fashion Week, new designers becoming established businesses and London’s international reputation for cutting edge design reinforced.”

Fashion Forward was launched three years ago as part of the London Development Agency’s support for the British Fashion Council. It provides funding for talented emerging British designers to produce an on-schedule catwalk show at London Fashion Week and gives them access to business support services to help them capitalise on their creative ideas and become established design businesses.

Erdem Moralioglu added:

“I’m so thankful to have won Fashion Forward from the BFC. Being able to show at London Fashion Week is integral to the brand and with this sponsorship, we are able to showcase our brand in an ideal manner.”

Christopher Kane said:

“I am thrilled to have been awarded Fashion Forward by the BFC. This was my 7th show at London Fashion Week and without its support I would not have had the ability to have presented the show in the way that I would want. I am especially thankful to have the BFC’s support on the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week as it has allowed me to reach the widest international audience possible which is invaluable to the growth of my business.”
