Thermal Technology Expands Materials Process Laboratory

Thermal Technology recently expanded its on-site materials process laboratory in Santa Rosa, California. The lab serves both existing and potential customers through process development and verification, toll processing and pilot production. Skilled technical staff assist users in the advancement of efficient and reliable processes for high temperature pressureless sintering, spark plasma sintering, high temperature chemical reactions and performance of developmental work to determine equipment specifications. Laboratory work is supported by PhD materials engineers, metallurgists and process engineers.

Thermal Technology’s laboratory is equipped with three sophisticated furnaces, crystal growth capabilities, a spark plasma sintering system, glove box and nanomaterials preparation area. Testing can be performed at a wide range of temperatures on ceramics, glass, metals, composites, polymers and semiconductors. Processes and capabilities are offered in the fields of energy storage, thermoelectrics and diffusion bonding; development of LED and CMH lighting; research in body, vehicle and transparent armor; exploration of electronic materials such as substrates and sputter targets and optical materials including crystals and transparent ceramics; and medical industry utilization for orthodontics, diffusion bonding and biomedical use.

“We are dedicated to solving materials problems for our customers,” says Matt Mede, president, CEO and co-owner of Thermal Technology. “Our skilled staff participates in the planning, performance and interpretation of on-site materials processing and the safe and efficient operation of laboratory equipment.”

Thermal Technology designs and manufactures crystal growing systems and high temperature vacuum and controlled atmosphere laboratory and production furnaces for the advanced processing of metals, ceramics, glass, quartz and crystal growing applications. Thermal Technology has over 60 years of experience and more than 3000 installations in 40 countries.
