Paris — Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and its partner NextiraOne today announced that the regional medical center of Annecy (Centre hospitalier de la région d’Annecy – CHRA) has received the “2009 French state modernization award” (Victoire de la modernisation de l’Etat 2009). The award which will be given at the French National Assembly, recognizes Alcatel-Lucent’s innovative healthcare solution recently implemented by Nextira One and its partner Netlogon.

Alcatel-Lucent provided CHRA with a converged IP communications network solution that enables hospital personnel to access critical information (voice, data and imagery) quickly and securely in order to efficiently deliver higher quality patient care. As part of the project, synchronized calendars, shared resources, improved collaboration tools and provision for the needs of mobile personnel all deliver an increase in efficiency. Terminals in the rooms allow hospital personnel to access the patient’s file while patients can access Internet, multimedia entertainment, and even access to online satisfaction surveys.

“The unique expertise and experience of Alcatel-Lucent and NextiraOne have been key in this innovative health infrastructure project. Patients, doctors, medical and administrative personnel can now rely on modern and efficient solutions without having to bother with the underlying technologies. As Antoine de Saint-Exupéry once wrote in The Little Prince: ‘what is essential is invisible to the eye’,” said Serge Bernard, general manager of the CHRA.

“Our state-of-the-art IP communications infrastructure is positioned by the Annecy regional medical center at the centre of its healthcare process, resulting in a much more positive experience and superior care for the patients. It is also enabling CHRA to save money and prepare for the future,” commented Alain Penel, vice-president Sales & support of Alcatel-Lucent’s Enterprise activities in France.

“Nextiraone recommended Alcatel-Lucent voice and data solutions as the best adapted to the healthcare environment because of their robustness, durability, ergonomic features and centralized managing interface,” said Foucault de la Rochère, CEO Nextiraone.

The ambitious communications upgrade had already received an external link innovation award from French publication 01Informatique. CHRA has also been publicized by Alcatel-Lucent as an example of what it calls a Dynamic Enterprise, in which interconnecting network, people, processes and knowledge results in greater time dedicated time to the patients.
