MELBOURNE, Florida, February 20, 2006 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) today begins a celebration of National Engineers Week 2006, from February 19-25, which will include two large-scale events that will feature employee luncheons and award ceremonies at the two major campuses of its Government Communications Systems Division (GCSD). Events honoring the technology company’s 5,500-plus engineers and scientists also are planned at the Broadcast Communications, Microwave Communications and RF Communications Divisions in their respective locations.

“The National Engineers Week Foundation’s theme, ’Engineers Make a World of Difference,’ certainly rings true at Harris where we have planned an eventful week that celebrates engineering and recognizes our engineers for their many and varied contributions to our success,” said R. Kent Buchanan, vice president–Corporate Technology and Development and chief growth officer for Harris Corporation. “Activities this week will recognize the accomplishments and efforts of engineers and all Harris employees, including those working outside of engineering functions.”

Engineers Week events in the Melbourne/Palm Bay-area include 35 seminars hosted by technical experts from inside and outside the company, providing employees with information about new technology and product ideas. The company will host outdoor employee luncheons at its Palm Bay and Wickham Road campuses that will feature 37 demonstrations of various technologies and systems developed for its government customers. Thirty-eight technology suppliers and partners also will be on hand to showcase state-of-the-art engineering products and support services for all engineering disciplines.

As part of the festivities, awards will be presented to employees for significant engineering accomplishments. On Tuesday, February 21, the company will announce the recipients of the annual Technology Recognition Awards, including the Harris Fellow Award — the company’s highest recognition for achievement. Also to be announced on Tuesday are awards for Industry Recognition, Division Cooperation, Product and Process Innovation, and Reuse Innovation. Golden Quill awards will be presented to employees whose technical papers have been selected for publication in technical journals and presentation at industry forums.

Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, National Engineers Week puts special emphasis on introducing the field of engineering to young people. As part of its weeklong celebration, Harris is hosting area high school students, including company-sponsored teams of students who are representing Brevard County in the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) Team America Rocketry Challenge and the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics Competition. The students will tour Harris facilities, participate in special equipment demonstrations, and be paired with Harris engineers for in-depth discussions of career opportunities available in engineering. Florida universities also taking part in the celebration include the University of Florida, the University of Central Florida, Florida State University, and Florida International University.

“This is a great opportunity to expose students to the engineering field and stimulate interest in engineering as an educational and career path,” said Hank Eyster, vice president–Engineering for Harris GCSD. “By fostering interest in engineering through venues such as this, we hope that young people will consider a college engineering curriculum and, ultimately, consider Harris as a future employer.”
