Honeywell Avionics Enable Next-Generation Navigation, Auxiliary Power Unit is Most Fuel-Efficient In Its Class

PARIS AIR SHOW -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that it has been selected to provide the company’s Inertial Reference System and the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) as standard equipment on all new deliveries of Bombardier’s CSeries* aircraft.

At entry into service, the CSeries family of aircraft will be the greenest single-aisle aircraft in its class. Honeywell’s APU for the new CSeries aircraft will be a derivative of its 131-9, the most commonly used APU for single-aisle commercial transport and offers improved fuel efficiency and reliability.

The LASEREF VI Inertial Reference System is an all-digital high performance Ring Laser Gyro system. The advanced features of the system enable more precise landing and reduce operational and maintenance costs.

“Honeywell’s LASEREF VI is a 50% reduction in box size and a 30% reduction in weight and power consumption, compared to similar systems,” said John Bolton, President, Honeywell’s Air Transport and Regional business. “Since the unit is digital, it reduces maintenance costs by removing the need for manual adjustments. Automatic alignment, in-motion inertial alignment and automatic realignment between flights were all functions previously formed by maintenance crew that are now automatically performed throughout the system.”

Additionally, the LASEREF VI system is compliant with new ADS-B requirements and can meet RNP .1 performance standards when used with Honeywell’s GPS Hybrid (HIGH) software. This advanced navigation performance allows airline to minimize delays due to weather and maximize fuel efficiency.
The LASEREF VI Inertial Reference System will be standard equipment with triple installation on Bombardier’s new Series aircraft, including the CS100* and CS300* aircraft. Entry into Service (EIS) for the CSeries aircraft is scheduled for 2013.
