Fair Trade Fashion Show

Thousands flocked to join in the weekend fun in the sun at the Doune and Dunblane Fling. This year the theme was International Harmony which took in Fair Trade, World Music and Sustainability.

The Fling began on Friday night with a rip-roaring ceilidh and cool, eclectic jazz. A spectacular afternoon of fire eating, fashion and fun was had by all at Fling by the River on Saturday, and the Fling Concert in the evening was a sell-out success. The celebrations culminated at Doune Castle with a vibrant festival of world music on Sunday afternoon.

But one of the biggest successes of the weekend was undoubtedly Dunblane’s first ever Fair Trade fashion show. The models strutted their stuff on the catwalk with panache and glamour, showing that Fair Trade Fashion can make you look fantastic and feel great knowing that Fair Trade cotton farmers are being supported by the movement. The dance troupe from the Queen Victoria School kicked off proceedings with a spectacular show inspired by Indian rhythms and ended it with an amazing display which was positively acrobatic. Both dances were choreographed by the girls themselves. They wore Wombat Fairtrade t-shirts - “clothing for life’s adventures” – the perfect garments for their dare-devil dance antics. What is more, they loved the t-shirts so much that they went online afterwards to check them out as did their schoolmates! The Doune and Dunblane Fling is very grateful to Wombat and the other Fairtrade companies for generously supplying the clothes for our successful Fair Trade fashion show.

This year’s Fling was generously sponsored by Forth Valley and Lomond LEADER, the Scottish Fair Trade Forum, Stirling Council, Historic Scotland, Dunblane Hydro, Marshall Construction and Airtricity. Thanks to all of them!
