Wednesday, February 15 2006, Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERICY) and Sagem Communication have signed a license agreement for U275, an EDGE/WCDMA platform from Ericsson Mobile Platforms. With the license agreement, Ericsson and Sagem Communication expand their successful cooperation.

Thierry Buffenoir, deputy CEO of Sagem Communication, says: “We have extended our cooperation with Ericsson Mobile Platforms that was initiated in 2005. The U275 platform uses low power consumption and offers extensive multimedia functions. The platform also provides seamless handover between EDGE and WCDMA in a single platform. With the U275 we will make it possible for operators to provide a 3G service offering with one single device that can use both EDGE and WCDMA networks.”

Sandeep Chennakeshu, head of Ericsson Mobile Platforms, says: “We are happy that Sagem Communication has selected the U275 platform. The U275 platform provides full roaming and handover capabilities between EDGE and WCDMA.”

The U275 enables operators to offer their services to a wider subscriber base as EDGE and WCDMA can be covered using a single mobile phone.

Ericsson Mobile Platforms was first to successfully verify seamless handover between EDGE and WCDMA in live commercial networks, demonstrating key 3G capabilities of both packet data and voice calls.

The U275 is a tri-mode platform (GSM/GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA), with a rich feature set including IMS, high performance video including H.264, 3D audio functionality and state of the art camera and display capability.
