Best Father’s gift is from a child with a giving heart!

Learning to give may be best birthday present of all!

Houston, Texas, June 2, 2009 – Several years ago, Bellaire young residents, the Ferdman children - Annie, Adam, and Rebecca - started a new tradition. On each birthday, they donate a portion of their gifts to the children at the ESCAPE Family Resource Center.

The children’s father, David Ferdman, President & CEO of CyrusOne, serves as the President of the Board of Directors. Mr. Ferdman and his wife, Shantal, attended and voluntered in ESCAPE’s parenting classes.

“The Ferdman family started this tradition showing that even the smallest of our neighbors can make a big difference through kindness”, says Lidya K. Osadchey, ESCAPE’s chief executive officer. “Our children grow into generous and socially conscious adults when we instill positive values in them from an early age with our own examples of volunteering. When it comes to saving Houston’s children from abuse and neglect, we all can play a role.”

Founded in 1983, ESCAPE Family Resource Center is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), organization whose mission is “to prevent child abuse and neglect before a child is hurt by providing intervention, education, and support programs to families in crisis.” The majority of ESCAPE’s programs are available at no cost or very low cost to the public. Classes are presented in English and Spanish to anyone interested in making or keeping their homes free of violence towards children. ESCAPE collaborates with 91 other organizations. Classes are available “on-site” at the agency’s office in central Houston and “off-site” at 70 locations in Harris and Fort Bend counties.
