Total Diving is proud to announce that the Kahnawake Quarry is reopened to scuba divers.

The Kahnawake quarry is also known as the Bedard quarry. It is located just off the Mercier bridge on the South shore of Montreal, QC, Canada.

PADI Course Director and owner of Total Diving, Mr. Darcy Kieran, said: “Scuba divers in Montreal are quite privileged to have access to this unique dive site so close to Montreal but it’s more than just a nearby dive site... It’s also one of the best dive sites in Eastern Canada.” The Kahnawake Quarry is located a mere 9.8 km (6 miles) from Total Diving’s dive store and dive training center on the other side of the Mercier bridge.

The Kahnawake Quarry offers great diving all year round. The visibility is quite good for a fresh water Canadian dive site. It varies from 30 to 80 feet (10 to 25 meters).

The quarry is fed by fresh water sources. There are 2 thermoclines. During the Summer months, the first one is typically around 40 feet (12 meters). You should plan to dive with a 7mm 2-piece wetsuit with hood and gloves.

Motor boats are not allowed on this body of water covering about 1.5 square kilometers (370 acres) and none is needed! Close to the dock currently being built, scuba divers have access to areas well suited for the PADI Open Water diver course, PADI Advanced Open Water diver course and all PADI specialties to the exception of drift diving! It can also be used for technical diving training and practice sessions since the quarry offers depth reaching 300 feet (90 meters).

Because it used to be a quarry, it also has many cliffs to practice wall diving.

Already, there are a few interesting sites to visit, including a small boat wreck, and Total Diving is planning on setting up more underwater dive sites during these coming Summer months. Scuba divers can also encounter some marine life including pike, tilefish and perch.

This site is, however, private and you need authorization to use it. Consult the details of scuba diving at the Kahnawake quarry in Montreal (http://shop.totaldiving.com/en/kahnawake.html) before planning anything there.
