Discovery will deliver enterprise level mobile access to K-12 student information systems from BlackBerry smartphones

Langley, British Columbia, Canada - Discovery Software, a leading provider of mobile access solutions to the K-12 education market, today announced that it has become a BlackBerry® Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Alliance member. This program will allow Discovery Software to leverage the business and technical resources and tools available through the alliance program from Research In Motion (RIM). Discovery Software is the developer of Principalm+, the established and respected market leading solution for school administrators that allows mobile, secure and instant access to student data.

“We are excited about the opportunity to work with RIM in providing our Principalm+ solution for BlackBerry® smartphones for schools and school districts in the US and Canada,” said Mebs Tejpar, Co-CEO of Discovery Software. “The power and flexibility of the new generation BlackBerry smartphones provides our software with a reliable and secure platform from which we can accomplish our goal to make schools safer, and to enable school and district administrators to connect better with their students and faculty, especially if a school is experiencing an emergency situation.”

Principalm+ acts as an extension of the school or district’s Student Information System (SIS) ensuring that school personnel have dependable, secure and mobile access to student information away from the desktop. For instance, school staff members can keep critical student medical information in-hand, and access it when needed most: on school buses or field trips, and in playgrounds and corridors. In emergency situations, school administrators can communicate quickly with parents, guardians and security individuals.

According to Kathy Richmond, Director of Sales at Discovery Software, “As a leading developer of mobile solutions for the K-12 market, joining the BlackBerry alliance program is an important step forward for us as many schools and districts are equipping school staff members with BlackBerry smartphones. Our existing customer base is eagerly awaiting the release of Principalm+ for BlackBerry smartphones, and we expect an uptake in interest and resultant sales with the application being available for BlackBerry smartphones. Even in these tough economic times, school safety and security remain paramount for our schools.”
