NPR Music’s Online Concert Series Continues with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, February 20

Concert Series, Live From the 9:30 Club, Streamed More than 1 Million Times

Washington, D.C. -– NPR Music’s series of live online concerts, available on www.NPR.org continues with a performance by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (B.R.M.C.) on Monday, February 20.

The new concert will be streamed live from the prestigious 9:30 Club, a Washington, D.C. venue known for booking breakthrough performers in all genres, including rock, punk, hip-hop and country. Besides streaming live, the concert will be archived on NPR.org, which allows fans to enjoy the full concert on-demand, any time. NPR Music’s concerts have been listened to via NPR.org more than 1 million times, and concert-related NPR.org pages have been viewed more than 2 million times.

NPR Member station KRCW Santa Monica has been credited with discovering Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in 2000 when they gave the band’s first demo extensive airplay on their weekend music program New Ground. Soon after, B.R.M.C. signed a record deal and released their self-titled debut album. Their latest, Howl, unveils a new blues, country, and gospel-inspired sound evolving from their original rock sound. Named after Marlon Brando’s gang in the 1953 film The Wild One, B.R.M.C. has been featured on All Songs Considered, NPR’s online-only music program, and World Café, WXPN Philadelphia’s influential contemporary music program distributed by NPR.

The hit audio webcasts, produced under the All Songs Considered banner, launched in January 2005 and have featured 18 live events to date. With listener response coming from around the world, the concerts have showcased an eclectic group of past performers, including James Brown, the White Stripes, Wilco, Sigur Ros, Sinead O’Connor, Death Cab for Cutie and David Gray. Along with this concert series, NPR Music recently expanded its partnership with WXPN Philadelphia to offer four weekly, live online concerts; the next one is Steve Wynn and the Miracle 3 on February 17. The concert’s audio will be available for live online streaming at 12Noon (ET), then will be archived permanently for on-demand listening as streaming audio on www.NPR.org/music
