Motorola Launches Push-To-Talk over Cellular with Vodafone Spain

WEBWIRE

BARCELONA, Spain – 3GSM World Congress - 14 February 2005 - Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that Vodafone Spain is deploying Motorola’s Push-To-Talk over Cellular (PoC) handset and server solution to subscribers nationwide. Vodafone will initially offer the one-touch communication service to business customers, and plans to extend the solution to other subscribers over time.

“Vodafone is continuing to drive the market for new subscriber services and their deployment of Push-To-Talk is a prime example,” said Jose Figueroa, corporate vice-president and general manager of Motorola Networks, EMEA and LAC. “Using PoC, Vodafone Spain’s subscribers will be able to experience today the convenience, fun and efficiency of one-touch communications. We are pleased to work with Vodafone Spain as a partner in providing new services like PoC to their subscribers.”

At launch, Vodafone business subscribers will be able to choose from a variety of Motorola PoC handsets including the ultra thin SLVR L7 or the slim V360v flip phone all of which feature Motorola’s best-in-class user interface, providing a simple, intuitive PoC experience. Subscribers will be able to engage in walkie-talkie style mobile phone conversations with either individuals or groups of colleagues. The service also offers Vodafone business subscribers a one-touch dedicated button to presence-enabled phone contacts, providing them with the flexibility of making calls, as well as sending mobile messages easily.

“Push-To-Talk over Cellular presents not only an exciting new revenue generating opportunity for Vodafone, but a new compelling way for our customers to communicate,” added Francisco Vallejo, Product Manager for Enterprise at Vodafone Spain. “To take advantage of this opportunity, we looked for a vendor who can demonstrate the knowledge and experience that’s needed and who also shares Vodafone’s heritage for innovation and vision for future ‘Push-To’ applications.”

With over 65 years experience in Push-to-Talk, including two-way radios, Motorola has been at the forefront of the industry with many major Push-To-Talk enhancements and continues driving the industry in deployments and innovation. Motorola created the world’s first Push-to-Talk over Cellular handset (the V60p) and continues to redefine the consumer experience by bringing PoC functionality to iconic new designs like SLVR. The company also unveiled the first PoC network in 2003 and is leading the market with 46 PoC contracts and commercial deployments in 35 countries and territories.

In addition, Motorola’s end-to-end PoC solutions help operators like Vodafone Spain easily deploy service today – the open standards based integrated handset/client/server solution promotes interoperability, exceptional scalability and cost-effective operation. And by leveraging IMS technology, Motorola also helps operators lay a foundation for new ‘Push-to’ applications including Push-to-Share; Push-to-View and Push-to-Video.
