Preston Automotive Group Sees Hope with Obama’s Fuel Economy Plan

WEBWIRE

The Preston Automotive Group of Preston, Maryland, learned today that President Obama along with many car industry and government leaders have introduced the framework to develop a national standard for fuel economy. Desired results of the plan are to increase fuel efficiency, decrease greenhouse gas emissions and bring the nation closer to energy independence.

Government officials believe that the new plan will increase the average fuel economy of cars on the road by 10 miles per gallon to 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016. To help preserve our environment, strengthen our economy and improve America’s energy situation the Preston Automotive Group has stocked its inventory of Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Chevrolet, Suzuki, Hyundai, Nissan, and used vehicles, with cars that get industry leading gas mileage such as hybrids and small cars.

Previously fuel economy standards had fourteen separate state regulations which created a very costly problem for automotive manufacturers and consumers. Certain vehicles had to be restricted in certain states and rigorous new specifications had to be met to conform just for one particular state, leading to higher production cost for the industry. The new fuel economy plan will help reduce production cost by establishing one single set of regulations and provide auto manufacturers with some certainty during these tough times. The Preston Automotive group looks to pass on these savings to its Maryland and Delaware customers.

Automotive manufacturers believe this as an opportunity to discover and introduce new technological advancements in the automotive industry. Ford, which Preston has proudly sold for over 30 years, recently began production of its all new EcoBoost engine which offers the performance feel of a larger engine with the fuel economy of a smaller one. These engines are much less expensive than other fuel saving options such as hybrids or diesel engines because the Ecoboost is a technological advancement in affordable gasoline engine technology. Research shows that the new engine may increase fuel economy by 20 percent and reduce CO2 emissions by 15 percent. EcoBoost engines will appear in the Ford Motor Company President’s Award winning Preston showroom this summer on the all new 2010 Lincoln MKT, the Lincoln MKS, Ford Taurus SHO, and Ford Flex.
