Abraham Lincoln’s Hair Collects $17,500… Selling on eBay
A single strand of Abraham Lincoln’s hair has fetched $17,500 while selling on eBay. The hair, which was attached to a card (similar to a baseball card in size) also included Lincolns autograph.
The eBay auction attracted over 700 visitors wanting to take a closer look at the unique article of American history. The sale was conducted using eBay’s “Best Offer” feature, which allows a seller to set an asking price and receive offers. The seller’s original asking price was $21,400. Five offers were submitted over six days, before the $17,500 offer was accepted.
According to James Massey, publisher of www.WhatSellsBest.com, a website which provides resources for free auction estimates and photos of top selling eBay items. “Lincoln autograph’s alone (just a signature) have been fetching (eBay) prices around $2,500, while Lincoln’s signature on documents have been in the $5,000 range. It appears the addition of the hair strand added a lot of value for collectors.”
