PSEG Applauds Waxman, Markey and Boucher for Forging Consensus on Comprehensive Climate Change Legislation
“We cannot let the search for perfection impede progress,” Izzo says

Newark, NJ.- PSEG Chairman Ralph Izzo today commended Chairmen Waxman, Markey and Boucher for their work to forge a consensus on climate change legislation that has a real chance of moving through Congress this year.

“We cannot let the search for perfection impede real progress. Chairmen Waxman, Markey and Boucher listened to their colleagues and worked to produce revised legislation that reflects a balanced and collaborative approach,” Izzo said. “We’ve seen real leadership in the crafting of this comprehensive bill, and I am hopeful that we’ll see something move through Congress this year.”

PSEG has been vocal in its advocacy for legislation that takes a comprehensive approach to climate change, one that establishes a price for carbon, spurs the development of green energy industries and reduces energy consumption. The Waxman-Markey bill, Izzo said, will put the U.S. on track to accomplish these goals.

“This bill marks a turning point in the discussion and is an indication that the country is getting serious about the need to address global warming,” Izzo said. “The threat of climate change requires that we transform the way we produce and consume energy, and the way we live our lives. How we respond will be the defining issue of our time.”
