LA Testing Remains at the Forefront of Analysis for Lead

Recent findings indicate that testing for lead is more important than ever.

Lead exposure has been the subject of research for years and as such there is no shortage of information regarding the subject. Recent findings, however, seem to indicate that it is of primary importance to note that there seems to be a correlation between exposures during early school-age exposures and lowered IQ levels.

Additionally, a study which will soon be published in Environmental Health Perspectives; also found that “later childhood exposures correlate more strongly than earlier ones with an exaggerated risk of incurring future criminal arrests for violent behavior.”

It is extremely critical to be aware of surrounding environmental conditions and materials that have been utilized to construct homes, schools and any other areas frequented by school-age children. The study indicates that this particular group is more susceptible to the problems associated with lead exposure.

The findings further point out that specific levels of lead found in the blood stream could have profound effects. The report indicated that “for every 5 µg/dl increase in a child’s average blood-lead level, we saw approximately a 25 percent increase in the number of violent activities associated with criminal arrests”.
