Combined Solutions Streamline Access to Patient Information by Securely Aggregating Data From Multiple Heterogeneous Systems.

ISLANDIA, N.Y. and SCOTTSDALE, AZ, February 13, 2006 — CA (NYSE: CA) today announced an agreement to resell Fusion from Carefx with CA’s Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution. Together, the two solutions will help healthcare providers reduce costs and improve the quality of patient care by giving clinicians easy, secure access to aggregated data across multiple systems.

Critical patient data often resides in disparate systems running on multiple platforms. This presents a problem for clinicians who need to review all patient data before making diagnoses and treatment decisions. Fusion from Carefx provides unified access to this data while centrally monitoring and reporting on patient record access across all applications.

The CA Identity and Access Management solution complements Fusion from Carefx by providing single sign-on, identity administration, user provisioning, user directory, identity federation, and Web services security, enabling healthcare providers to securely manage access to mainframe, distributed, Internet, and mobile systems in a common manner.

“To ensure that we provide the best care possible to our patients while meeting mandates of compliance regulations such as HIPAA, it is imperative that physicians, nurses and other personnel are able to securely yet quickly and easily access the information they need from a variety of new and legacy systems,” said Thomas D. East, Ph.D., CIO from the Alaska Native Medical Center. “We chose to work with CA and Carefx as they have extensive experience addressing the specific needs of healthcare providers and they were able to provide us with a comprehensive identity and access management solution integrated with context management.”

CA and Carefx will showcase the integrated solution at the HIMSS Conference (CA Booth # 2645) this week in San Diego.

“Our combined solution will free doctors to practice medicine rather than IT,” said Oscar Diaz, executive vice president of Business Development for Carefx. “Instead of requiring clinicians to navigate in and out of applications to find relevant patient data, our combined platform enables clinicians to sign in once, select a patient once and have the patient’s aggregated data presented to them automatically.”

“When it comes to providing access to patient data, healthcare organizations are struggling to find the appropriate balance between security and convenience,” said Michael McDermand, vice president of Healthcare Solutions at CA. “By bundling Carefx’s technology with our identity and access management technologies, CA is offering these organizations a complete and effective solution to unify clinical computing environments.”
