Spectrum Diagnostic Imaging Signs Letter of Intent with Franklin & Seidelmann

WEBWIRE

CLEVELAND, OH − February 6, 2006 – Spectrum Diagnostic Imaging, LLC, a leading provider of outpatient diagnostic imaging services, today announced that it has selected Franklin & Seidelmann Subspecialty Radiology (F&S), a national subspecialty radiology interpretation provider, to provide its radiology interpretation services.

The comprehensive Letter of Intent, which is expected to be finalized within 60 days, calls for F&S to provide all of Spectrum’s radiology interpretation services for 14 of its sites. The F&S network of virtual subspecialty radiologists will work as a team in conjunction with Spectrum’s on-site expert radiologists.

Spectrum Diagnostic Imaging, headquartered in Ohio, is a provider of diagnostic imaging services with 16 facilities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Florida. Spectrum facilities offer multiple modalities, including MR, CT, Ultrasound, Bone Density, Mammography, XRay and Nuclear Medicine. It consistently ranks among the top 20 of the largest diagnostic outpatient imaging center organizations in the U. S., with annual procedure volumes exceeding 100,000.

“Improving our quality of patient care is a core value for Spectrum, and this long-term strategic alliance positions us to do that by integrating our radiologists with the subspecialty expertise found among Franklin & Seidelmann radiologists resulting in a team approach to delivering on-site expertise coupled with distributed national expertise,” explained Spectrum Chairman/CEO Richard J. Kampa. “Throughout our practice locations, we’re seeing an increased level of referral opportunity from orthopedic surgeons, podiatrists, neurologists and neurosurgeons, and these cases typically call for a complimentary level of radiology expertise only a subspecialist such as those radiologists within the Franklin & Seidelmann network can provide,” added Kampa.

Spectrum’s initiative with F&S is another component of its investment strategy in new and improved services and equipment. Formerly known as Regional Diagnostics, the firm is in the process of spending $5.2 million in new modalities, and equipment and facility upgrades that include new High Field MRI units, new CTs, and upgraded mammography units. The company is being directed by an experienced management team consisting of Kampa, President/CFO/COO Ron L. Clark, and Dr. Douglas Arnson, National Medical Director.

“Our relationship with Franklin & Seidelmann Subspecialty Radiology fits Spectrum’s strategy of offering unparalleled, top-tier radiology services to our patients and their referring physicians as the premier radiology services provider in the Midwest,” said Arnson. “They will be a strong partner for us as we solidify our position in our various markets and address the sophisticated needs of our referring physicians,” he added.

The agreement allows both Spectrum and F&S to meet a variety of similar market conditions that are affecting their businesses:

• New modalities and their applications are making radiology readings infinitely more complex, requiring radiologists to expand their knowledge base.

• Many clinicians today insist upon more detailed subspecialty radiology interpretations.

• There is an overall radiologist shortage and even greater demand for subspecialists.

“We have always strived for and will continue to provide excellent patient services, such as fast report turnaround, same day appointments, affiliation with all major insurance plans, insurance pre-certification service for referrers, and convenient locations and hours of operation,” said Clark. “We’re committed to investing in new areas to further improve our level of service, such as the new Referring Practice Portal we’re launching that provides referring physicians easy access to patient reports and images via the Web,” adds Clark.

“Our relationship with Spectrum allows us to showcase what we view as the optimum strategy for how Diagnostic Imaging Centers will serve their patients going forward,” said F&S CEO and Co-Founder Dr. Frank Seidelmann. “The combination of on-site radiologists supplemented with access to our world renowned subspecialists provides Spectrum with an enviable offering of services they can offer the physician community. In addition, our far-reaching relationship with Spectrum calls for our two organizations to work together as business partners, where we’ll assist their staff in modality selection and protocol consultation, and subspecialty marketing education,” said Seidelmann.
